Use the coaster on a dry, stable surface with drinkware that rests level on the woven base. Rattan adds a textured layer between the cup and tabletop, but an open weave should not be treated as a waterproof seal. Wipe condensation and spills promptly, including any moisture that reaches the table underneath. The coaster is not supplied with a tested temperature rating and should not be used beneath cookware taken from an oven or hob.

A small round coaster can sit beside a notebook, lamp or place setting without taking up much room. The natural weave works well with clear glass, plain ceramic and wood. Small differences in strand thickness and color are part of the material, so individual pieces may not look exactly identical. Keep the surface arrangement uncluttered and choose cups with a base that sits comfortably within the coaster edge.

The small diameter makes the coaster easy to keep beside a frequently used seat or work area. Check that the drinkware base is narrower than the coaster and sits flat without rocking. A very large mug, an uneven ceramic foot or a narrow stemmed base may behave differently on a textured weave, so set the drink down carefully and keep it away from the table edge.

Care and use
